Achieving near-deterministic photon-emitter and photon-photon interactions is one of the main challenges in constructing large-scale quantum networks. Because of the finite scattering crosssection

and branching ratio of emitters existing up to date, it is not possible to achieve this goal without the fabrication of photonic structures around the emitter.

In this talk, I will present our experimental platform, that is a high-finesse Fabry-Pérot microcavity around individual organic molecules. First, I will report on our observations of strong coupling between a single molecule and the cavity mode, both in spectral and time-resolved measurements. As photon-emitter interactions are highly efficient in this system, we utilize its nonlinearity to mediate photon-photon interactions. I will explain several experiments in which the transmission of one photon is influenced by another photon, realizing an all-optical switch on the level of single photons. Furthermore, our system can create photons of new frequencies by four-wave mixing, also at the level of individual photons.

Finally, I will give an extended outlook on the capabilities of a modified version of the cavity utilizing dichroic cavity mirrors. These enable us to infer the excited-state population of the molecule by detecting its Stokes-shifted fluorescence. I will discuss the feasibility of detecting a two-photon excitation process in a pair of molecules coupled via the cavity mode.
